Recycle, Reduce, Craft!

Everyone knows the famous mantra recycle reduce reuse, but the reuse part is sometimes difficult. It is often not obvious how to reuse all the things that you can recycle.  Also the word reuse itself is pretty limiting.  It seems like the only thing you can do is use it for its intended purpose.  So for Long Island Iced Tea, for example, the only option is to refill our bottles with a different beverage. But there is so much more that they can be used for! So it is time to get creative and get crafting!

First and easiest, is you can use our bottle as a vase for a cute bunch of flowers!  Or with a little cutting, make it into a planter for herbs or flowers.  This will look especially nice when we release our brand new bottle in the beginning of March!  Another practical idea is to use it for storage; nails, beads, candy etc. If you have little ones in your life, turn it on its side and with a little foam and tape, it becomes almost every animal imaginable. A lizard, a cow, a dog, a cat, you name it! Maybe even a piggy bank. In the winter decorate it to look like a snowman, with a scarf and face and everything! They can even be made into pencil pouches with a little glue and a zipper!  But the bottle is not the only part that can be refurbished.  The caps can be made into magnets, or a fun alphabet by attaching letters to them. The gallon jugs can be used too, as watering cans by poking holes in the caps or into storage bins with strategic cutting and gluing.  Some of these crafts need further instructions of course, so check out the tutorials and some other cool ideas on our Pinterest, @longislandteas!

New Bottle and Label Design Unveiled

Today we are excited to unveiled a new 18oz bottle and label design for Long Island Iced Tea® which is set to launch in the new year.

Philip Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of Long Island Iced Tea®, stated, “As our brand continues to build momentum with retail and distribution partnerships forming across the East Coast and Midwest, now is the perfect time to refresh the look of our labeling and packaging.” 

The new label has a bolder structure with more cleanly designed label features, placing a stronger emphasis on the brand’s premium ingredients such as natural fruit flavoring, and the health benefits of non-GMO and 100% raw cane sugar, which is unique within the RTD tea market. The real fruit photography with naturally made moisture droplets accentuates the authentic and fresh spirit of the Long Island Iced Tea® products. 

Another unique featured added to the new bottle design is the customized bottle cap printed with a refined Long Island Iced Tea® logo along with informative health cues such as “no additives”, “non-GMO” and “low calories” for the diet options, further reinforcing the health messages.

Mr. Thomas added, “In addition to the ‘better for you’ message, we wanted the label to immediately evoke thoughts of our core concept – a premium and refreshing beverage – while at the same time subtly incorporate our brand elements such as white weatherboards, which are synonymous to the beach and coastal areas on Long Island.” The premium look of the new packaging contemporizes the Long Island Iced Tea® brand whilst celebrating heritage and cultural associations to it. 

The introduction of the new bottle will see the package size change from a 20oz bottle size to a 18oz bottle size, with the sleek and slimmer design being more compact, making it easier for customers to carry and consume.  The new bottles are expected to reach retail stores in early 2017.

Mr. Thomas concluded, “While our new bottle and refreshed designs will begin to roll out across stores at the start of 2017, what will not change is the same great taste of Long Island Iced Tea® that our valued customers know and love.”

Recent studies have associated two compounds in tea, L-theanine and caffeine, with cognitive health benefits. The amino acid L-theanine, in particular, has been shown to directly affect areas of the brain that control attention and the ability to solve complex problems. Other studies have shown that drinking tea may improve mental clarity, mood and work performance. A Long Island Iced Tea might be just what you need to fight through the mid afternoon slump.

The findings:

  • A recent human study examined the effect of L-theanine on attention-related task performance; the results suggest L-theanine, in synergy with caffeine, plays a role in attentional processing.
  • Consuming black tea improved attention and self-reported alertness, according to a study from the Netherlands. In this placebo-controlled human study designed to measure attention, task performance and alertness, subjects drinking tea were more accurate on an attention task and also felt more alert than subjects drinking a placebo.

Here are some easy and helpful tips to make your Long Island Iced Tea even more refreshingly enjoyable:
1. Pour the delicious Long Island Iced Tea in a large iced filled jug.
2. Add a slice of lemon and squeeze the lemon into it. You can also crush the lemon rind – essential oils from the rind add a nice citrusy flavor.
3. If you like mint, crushing a few leaves into your iced tea to give it an uplifting and energizing taste.
4. A pinch of cinnamon or crushed cardamom is another way to add taste and flavor to iced teas.
5. Try crushed strawberries and raspberries to add a unique taste to iced tea. You can even add pomegranate juice, orange juice or peaches to your iced tea for something cool, different and delicious!
